The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) sports program is a ministry that serves both the parish and school. We are seeking faithful, organized, and team-oriented leaders to serve our youth and families.
We have completed the Basketball Season for our St. Peter’s Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) with playoff’s last weekend. As pastor, I thank Phillip & Megan Hunter and the CYO Board members, Stephanie Aubochon, Nicole Conrad, Martin Epple, Annette Sandlin, Rey Martinez, Miles Murray and Monica Wilkes, for rescuing and pulling-off the whole basketball season. I have been privy to many of the details, complexities and hard work involved in providing volunteer adult leadership, all for the benefit of the children and youth of our St. Peter’s Parish and the larger community.
After many improvements and updates to our CYO program over the last several years, the Board has helped secure CYO as an extremely successful and popular program in the parish and Boerne. We want our CYO to remain the quality and virtuous sports program it is for the future. That cannot be attained unless we secure more leaders and volunteers at all levels.
Phillip & Megan are trying to retire their positions for a second time along with other members of our board who have served faithfully and professionally for a long time, even after some of their own children have aged out of CYO sports. We must find adults to volunteer to provide renewed leadership so the children and youth of our community can experience the good of community sports as a means of learning the “game of life,” having personal, constructive and competitive fun, while learning game rules, discipline and sportsmanship. We now need to find key and required leaders for the next generation at St. Peter’s Parish, Boerne, Texas! Would you, please, consider stepping up?? See the facing page to read about the positions and role descriptions necessary and volunteer your person, talent and time.
Another development has come about that impacts CYO for our parish this year. We have opened our new Catholic Elementary School here at St. Peter’s, and as all Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, we need to transition our CYO so it will serve as the major athletic program for our students. In that light, I appeal in a special way to parents and grandparents who love Catholic School education—especially those who already have and are planning to register your children into our school—to consider signing-up to be in a lead role for our coming CYO Seasons. While CYO will be our school’s athletic program, it also remains open to all the children of our parish going to other schools in the community and to all volunteers from within the community.
The next CYO sports season is Baseball/Softball, but St. Peter’s Parish has never offered it. We do not have staffing or access to baseball fields on our parish properties, and there would be high competition for renting local fields, so we have referred children and youth to other existing Baseball Programs.
The next sport season here at St. Peter’s will be Volleyball. Registrations will begin at the end of July and practices will begin in late August. CYO also offers Soccer, Flag Football and other sports. We need new CYO leaders in place and trained for their roles at the soonest possible time.
We will not be able to continue our CYO Program unless new volunteers step forward with courage and selfless willingness to volunteer for the good of the next generation of our children and youth. Our present CYO leaders will train new leaders and be available to mentor and consult them as they assume their roles.
Again, an incredible expression of gratitude to our present and outgoing CYO leadership for your selfless, generous, and zealous work and ministry. You have gone above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty to be there for our children and youth and their families.
Sincerely,

Heavenly Father,
As I compete, help me to seek your glory, with a brotherly affection towards my opponent, always striving to see you in them.
As I sweat and fight through pain, help me unite my struggle to the suffering of your son on the cross.
If I win, allow it to be for your honor, in your name, with a humble heart.
If I fail, let it be with dignity and a courageous spirit, always willing to stand strong and compete again.
Make my desire for greatness firm, yet with peace of mind know that my worth is always found in you, in victory or defeat.
I ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord... Amen
To offer to all youth, sports and recreation programs emphasizing friendly competition through good sportsmanship "modeled" by adult participants. To invite all participants, Catholic and otherwise, youth and adults to share in the life of their church/faith community. This is accomplished by compliance with the objectives of the Policy and Procedures Handbook of the CYO and its mission statement.
The St. Peter's of Boerne Catholic Athletic Association (SPBCAA) shall provide for the members of this parish the opportunity for their children to participate in athletic programs that will promote the religious and social development of its youth as well as developing athletic skill under the supervision of responsible adults. With the safety of the children being the utmost importance and free of personal adult ambition and glory.
The SPBCAA shall provide the young people of our community and parish members the opportunity to compete in divisions constructed by age. Leagues will be further divided into first year age groups and second year age groups if possible. These teams will be constituted in accordance with current city CYO rules and within the leagues formed in Zone VI for each sport.
CYO is a friendly, yet competitive league open to boys and girls ages 4 through 14, residing in and around the Boerne area. We offer Basketball during the winter (November through February), Track in early spring (February to March) and Volleyball (Fall).
